Free Pattern: Baby Headband

This is a simple headband I made in about 5 minutes to match #2's legwarmers.  It can be made with this flower, or with any flower, applique or bow.  The idea is, make the flower, chain long enough to go around her head, attach with a slip stitch.

Supplies:
Small amount of yarn (I used cotton)
Hook appropriate for your yarn (I think I used a 5mm)

Abbreviations:
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
sl st: slip stitch

Instructions:
Magic ring, ch 1.
Round 1: 5 sc inside ring.  Join to first sc.  Ch 1.
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (10 sc)  Join to joining ch.
Round 3: *Ch 2.  2dc in next sc.  Ch 2, sl st in next sc.*  Repeat 4 times.

Finishing:
At this point, you can sl st underneath the flower in the back loop of the round 2 sc, then start your headband chain.  That would put the start of the headband underneath, like a normal headband.  For mine, I was in a hurry, and I hadn't thought of that yet, so I just started my chain from my last sl st.  My method, when worn, sticks up on one side of the flower only.
-For my 5-month-old with a 16" head circumference, I chained 39.
It would be best to have the kid there for this pattern, since too many chains and it will fall off, too few and it will be uncomfortable.  The yarn will stretch a bit, but not much.
-Sl st in the back loop of the Round 2 sc directly on the other side of your starting ch, being careful not to twist.  Finish off, weave in ends.

  1. I love this headband! It was a cinch to make, and I put a vintage bead in the center for an added touch. I also used red for the flower and cream for the actual headband for some contrast. I chained 50 for my 10 month old's head (would tell you circumference, but she's sleeping) and it fit perfect. Going to make several for a baby shower gift. So cute, Thank you for sharing!
