Free Pattern: Kiddie Sunglasses Necklace

These are for my girlies, who love to wear their sunglasses when the sun is "shiny" in their eyes, but who frequently toss them onto the floor of the van.  Where they step on them.

I am going to share the method I used to DIY the section that attaches to the glasses.  There is a much easier way to do it - you can just buy a couple of crimp beads in the jewelry making section of the craft store and sl st the yarn to one side of each one.  But I wanted to come up with a way to do it for someone like me who thinks of it and wants to do it without a trip to the craft store first.

Supplies:
Any weight yarn (I used worsted weight, Red Heart)
Corresponding hook (I used 5mm hook)
Hot glue

Instructions:
Make a slip knot in your yarn, but make it the opposite way you normally would, so the cut end slides through instead of the long end.  Tie a double knot at the end of the short end so that it won't pull all the way through.  Using hot glue, line the inside of the loop to create a nonslip edge to grip the glasses.  Be to put the glue on a very small area next to the knot - you want it to hold the glasses tight, and if the knot can't get tight enough, it won't do that.  Put glue around all sides of the yarn, in case the yarn flips over.

Make another slip knot next to your first knot on the working side of the yarn to begin.  Make a chain as long as you want your necklace to be.  For my girls I made 40 chs, which came to about -- in.

Cut your yarn with a few inches of tail, pull through and pull through again to securely knot.  Make a slip stitch with the short end moving freely, and hot glue to make nonslip.  Knot the end of the short tail.  Trim ends.

Attach to sunglasses, go to town.
